Bann authored the exceptional Laurel and Hardy filmographies in the Laurel and Hardy Book (Curtis series) and the "big book" Laurel and Hardy, as well as his excellent book Our Gang: the Life and Times of the Little Rascals (co-authored with Leonard Maltin). For me, his filmographies were the benchmark on which I measured my Mack Sennett's Fun Factory filmography--as his attention to detail and intelligence work in discovering the names of some previously obscure players was beyond anything I had seen in books prior to that. He just emailed me to ask me to post the following, as he was stymied (to use Our Gang terminology) by Google's profile system in doing so. Here are his comments:<br /><br />"30 years ago when I started my two L&H filmographies, I did not know who Leo Sulky was. But in 3 decades I have learned a few things! There has never been, however, an opportunity to update those filmographies....Richard W. I just noticed Leo the other day in the background of Jimmy Cagney's classic "White Heat." He's in the scene at the prison workshop where Edmund O'Brien saves Cagney from the intentionally dropped engine (or whatever it was) from a cable that hovered above his head. I'm sure Leo has a lot more unbilled appearances, he seemed pretty versatile, with and without make-up.<br />SteveRSteve Rydzewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13024880026675818912noreply@blogger.com
